The Audubon Bird Call is a sweet and beautifully crafted item, connecting people with nature in a delightful way. This simple but perfectly tuned bird call can be kept in the pocket or worn as a necklace and taken on every adventure or outing, to call and 'talk to' birds.
Each bird call comes in a presentation box with a length of hemp cord, so that it can be worn as a necklace. Sturdy cast zinc and solid birch construction. Rosin (pine resin) capsule included to maintain the call’s distinctive chirp.
***WARNING*** If gifting this item to small children, please note the small capsule of pine resin powder (rosin) and advise parents to store it for safe keeping, to avoid accidental swallowing. ***
The bird call's sound is produced by rotating the wooden cylinder against the cast zinc plug. By varying the pressure between the two surfaces while twisting back and forth, a variety of bird sounds can be accurately imitated. Originally conceived by songbird hunters in Europe, the bird call attracts birds by creating the illusion that other birds are in the area.
The Audubon brand was started in 1947 by Roger Eddy. From his farm in Newington, Connecticut, Mr. Eddy and his family made and sold the original Audubon Bird Call for over 50 years. Roger died in 2003, and his grandsons Martin and Sam Fox moved the company to their home state of Rhode Island. The Fox brothers have continued Roger Eddy's commitment to high quality, hand-made products.
