About The Brand+-
Nygårdsanna
Anna learned to knit and sew at the age of five, guided by her mother and grandmothers in Mora, a town in Sweden’s Dalarna province known for its strong handicraft traditions. By the age of nine, she was making her own clothes, born more from necessity than fashion, as there was little available to buy locally. Though she never imagined working in clothing professionally, she hoped for a job that would allow time to sew. Her path changed when she studied at the Swedish School of Textiles and later at Beckmans College of Design, where her graduation collection became the first nygårdsanna line in 1994.
As the brand grew, so did her family. Her children have always been involved, from factory visits as babies to now playing active roles in the business.
At nygårdsanna, natural materials and high-quality craftsmanship are central. Anna believes clothes should never overshadow the wearer and are only complete when they belong to someone. She designs with diverse body types in mind, often adjusting lengths and including functional details like wristlets with thumb holes. Inspired by nature and traditional workwear, her colour palette features subtle, washed-out tones that are easily combined and consistent across collections. She frequently draws on elements of men’s clothing, reinterpreting them in feminine forms.
Sustainability is at the heart of the brand. Customers often pass down nygårdsanna garments across generations or find them second-hand, proof of their lasting quality. The company encourages repairs, sending out fabric, buttons, or wool to help preserve well-loved items.
Though Swedish factories no longer meet the production standards Anna seeks, she partners with high-quality manufacturers in nearby countries like Estonia and Latvia. Each garment proudly reflects its origins, with details available on the label.
Product Care+-
We recommend you follow the wash care instructions on the care label.
Remember that wool cleans itself. Freshen up your garment by hanging it outdoors between wears.
