In Conversation with Anna Wallack - Misha & Puff Spring 24

Our friendship with Misha & Puff goes back to the very start, both brands starting in the very same year!
We always love seeing each new collection and hearing all about their inspiration.
With a new season starting we spoke to Anna Wallack about the Misha & Puff creative process and her inspiration for the Spring 24 collection.

Anna, your unique approach to design is quite distinctive. Can you share some insights into how your team collaborates on the creative process, and how this synergy has shaped the unique aesthetic of Misha & Puff's Spring collection?
I love the creative process and after all these years have come to hold it very sacred.  I love that each collection starts with a blank slate. We start this process, about 17 months ahead of delivery! Which seems crazy but in truth there is never enough time. I put together a mood board with just things I am liking, then meet with my design director and designer for what we call a riff session. They also bring ideas and swatches and patterns and art they have been interested in, and we mix it all up together and see what happens. So after that we go into colour palette.  We are always looking for ways to innovate and move forward while still being very identifiable Misha & Puff

The Spring collection feels like a beautifully woven story. How do you approach storytelling through your designs, particularly for this season?

We have always been more image led than particular narratives, in truth. That, and materials led. But the beauty is that each person sees something different and unique. To me that is our connection with art - the customer, the viewer, completes each piece with their own experiences.

How does the Spring collection balance aesthetics with functionality, ensuring that each piece is not only beautifully designed but also comfortable and easy for kids to wear in their daily adventures?

Oh this is always top of mind.  How are we wearing it. How is it WEARING, i.e. holding up.  Are these pieces able to be around for a while and get a cute shrunken look. Can they grow with your child. I hate the idea of saving your best stuff for special occasions. Always have.

I believe in the drama and theatre and specialness of everyday. The performance of wearing clothes and remember acutely what it was like as a kid to be so excited to wear my special things. To show the world how I wanted them to see me through the styles and colour. This idea is what keeps me going and designing new things. But truly, we believe that everyday is special. And your best stuff should be the stuff that is expected to be worn every day and hold up to that kind of wear.

And finally, do you have a favourite piece of the Spring collection?
I love the homage group. Inspired by Joseph Albers, homage to the square, this to me feels both new and very Misha & Puff. I love the way the colours play together and radiate in and out. I also feel like it shows off our love for interesting colour combinations that is also uniquely Misha & Puff.

We are excited to be launching the homage group in Drop 2

Thank you Anna @misha_and_puff
