Oeuf
(pronounced UH-F, means egg in French)
Michael Ryan and Sophie Demenge are the husband-and-wife team who created Oeuf. The birth of their first child in 2002 inspired the couple to focus their design talents and production experience exclusively on children’s products, with a vision to offer parents high-quality pieces that are sustainably sourced and responsibly created.
Alpaca- handmade in Bolivia by a Fair Trade women’s collective, Oeuf's knitwear combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Made with 100% baby alpaca wool, the knits are soft, luxurious, hypoallergenic and eco-friendly. When you buy Oeuf knits, you transform the lives of Bolivian women and their families. (Organic Pima cottons and baby alpaca- made in Peru.)
In working with this WFTO-certified organization and all our suppliers, Oeuf adheres to fair trade principles, including: payment of a fair price, ensuring no child labor or forced labor, commitment to non-discrimination, gender equity and women’s economic empowerment, ensuring good working conditions, and respect for the environment.
Baby alpaca wool is chosen because in addition to being exceptionally soft and warm, it is sustainable, with a low environmental impact. Alpaca wool is naturally hypoallergenic, and thus there is no need for chemical treatments that could be harmful to the environment.
Alpacas are indigenous to the regions where they produce, raised on small farms, and sheared humanely without harm to the animals. They do not contribute to over-grazing. And alpaca wool is a high-quality, long-lasting material ideal for sustainable practices and long-term use.
