Maku
Maku is a conceptual Indian slow fashion brand with the heritage of the country's historic textile production at its core. All the fabrics used by Maku have been specially designed, hand loomed and embellished in house. Founder Shantanu acknowledges that globalisation has brought about a demand for uniformity of product, which is totally alien to Indian textile history, seeped in Indian handloom. Through Maku, Shantanu seeks to challenge this and create a unique beauty that cannot be created by machine alone. Richly worked textiles are designed in collaboration with the artisans working the looms, saluting these age old practices, continuing their history.
Using Silk and Cotton, hand loomed with techniques such as Jamdani which originate in Maku's hometown of Bengal, they produce unique lightweight and airy fabrics. Plant and hand dyes impart rich colours throughout their designs. Maku creates incredible heirloom pieces to be cherished.
