Freelance Fashion Designer

Title: Designer - Freelance

Base: London E10

Salary: Negotiable – based on experience

 

THE POSITION: 

Due to the growth of our own label brand SISKIN, we are looking for an enthusiastic and

motivated freelance Designer to support the Senior Buyer through all stages of product design and development.

This will be across both Childrenswear and Womenswear working on knitwear, jersey and woven products.

Childrenswear experience is essential.

Within the role you will carry out all the initial design and CAD and Spec the designs ready to send out to the supplier.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

 Fabulous opportunity for a candidate with previous industry experience. The ideal candidate will have many years’ experience in a like-minded business and a passion for childrenswear and sustainability.

A strong creative with a passion and understanding of our business – understanding and loving who we are and what we do is a “must”.

Great communication skills and presentation skills using CAD.

Excellent knowledge of garment construction.

Passionate about sustainability.

A self-starter – needs to be self-motivated and able to work alone.

Readily comes up with ideas and solutions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Market research.

Meeting with buyer and owner to develop range and designs.

Producing design, mood, and colour presentations for the owner alongside the buyer.

Designing commercial garments and specs - CADs.

Communicating with suppliers both in the UK and EU.

Sourcing fabric and trims alongside the buyer.

Meet critical path deadlines.

 

SKILLS:

 Ability to work across both childrenswear and womenswear.

Able to design Knitwear and Jersey and some woven garments.

A passion and understanding for the type of business we are – you need to “get it”

Strong understanding of manufacturing and textiles.

Strong technical knowledge of garments fitting, grading and construction.

Ability to work alone as well as in a team.

Be able to work under tight deadlines and cope with pressure.

Have a keen interest in childrenswear fashion and textiles.

Flexible approach to be able to adjust to the constantly changing needs of the business.

Ability to information clearly in clear easy to understand terms.

Applied technical knowledge of fabrics and threads.

Highly organised with good prioritisation skills.

Confident and clear communication skills; both verbal and written to work productively

alongside other product team and external suppliers.

Knowledge of fabric, lab testing and assessment of results.

Ability to work in structured and timely manner under pressure within a team

environment.

Must be able to use Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
