Kathryn owns and runs her own natural dying studio and she is an inspiration!
We sent Kathryn some of our SISKIN Merino/Silk Pointelle items a while ago for our anniversary collaboration and what came back is just beautiful. Three subtle colours barley, blossom and buttercup, and we hope you love them as much as we do.
We spoke to Kathryn about our collaboration:
"In working for myself, my process can be quite insular and sometimes isolating. I love getting to work with other women and sharing in the process of our combined vision. It was such a pleasure to work with MamaOwl to bring new products/colours to light"
"In creating the Mamaowl pieces, I used traditional natural dyeing processes. The products had to be scoured (cleaned), mordanted (soaked in a plant-based solution that helps the dye bind to the fibre & ensures colour/light fastness) and dyed. The dye was made from natural colours extracted from different parts of plants. Using a combination of roots, nuts and heartwood I was able to achieve the colours in this range"
"I really love the variation of the tones achieved from the natural dyes used. There is an earthy quality & warmth that lends itself to the natural fibres of the SISKIN pieces.
What I love most about natural dyes is how they change throughout the light of the day. There is a life to these colours that you don't get from synthetically dyed pieces. When you combine natural fibres and plant dyes, there is some kind of magic that takes place that can be felt & seen in these pieces"
